LG DOW Polycarbonate Ltd

commenced operations July 1, 2001, when it started the 65000MTA plant in Yeosu, Korea, and assumed the market franchise for CALIBRE* Polycarbonate resins from The Dow Chemical Company. The primary business of LG-DOW is the manufacturer and supply of CALIBRE Polycarbonate to customers in Asia Pacific, with the exception of Japan. Target markets for LG-DOW products include sheet and construction, general-purpose consumer goods, optical media, electronic and telecommunications equipment. LG-DOW is a 50:50 joint venture company owned by The Dow Chemical Co. and LG corporation(former LG Chemical).

With close geographic proximity to China, LG-DOW is well positioned to serve growing markets in Northeast Asia. The location provides easy access for customers in Korea, and Greater China, as well as excellent logistic capability to service the broader Asia Pacific region.

LG DOW Polycarbonate Ltd. is more effectively serving customers and satisfying growing needs in the Asia Pacific engineering plastics market by matching the strengths of global plastics leaders, Dow Chemical and LG corporation(former LG Chemical). The combined global capacity for CALIBRE Polycarbonate is 285,000 MTA. Dow operates polycarbonate facilities in Freeport, Texas, USA, and Stade, Germany. The polycarbonate plant in Niihama, Japan is owned and operated by Sumitomo Dow Ltd.

Polycarbonate is still in its early product life cycle. Demand growth in Asia Pacific is expected to increase more than 10 percent annually. LG-DOW has secured the site and already built the infrastructure for a second polycarbonate train; essentially doubling the current operations to a combined 130,000MTA nameplate capacity.
